This is pure naturalness: “SheepArt” is a yarn that creates an incomparable structure through its airy fiber clouds. It is great fun to process this yarn into a wonderfully rustic, light and soft wool piece. Big needles are a must!
After the shearing, the wool fibres are sorted, gently cleaned and carded.
We, at mon petit rouet, soak the yarn after spinning just in warm water (without additives) to fix the twist and to let the fibers relax and loosen up.
So that the yarn stays so wonderfully fluffy and voluminous, it is wound into a strand – so that it can wait quite “relaxed” for its further transformation.
Details about the yarn
Our “Moutrio” is not a breed of sheep, but a fancy name for the mixture of different fibers (Texel and Suffolk sheep, as well as a mixed race with black wool).
100% Virgin wool (sheep) / natural shade: grey
The yarn consists of 2 individual strands, total weight: approx. 100g
> 35 microns
yarn of carded fibres / 2 ply
tension: 8 stitches and 11 rows for a 10x10cm square in stockinette stitch
recommended needle size: at least 10mm
Sheep wool is known for the following qualities:
- resistant to dirt
- can absorb a lot of moisture without feeling wet
- can neutralize odors and therefore does not “smell” so fast
- supports skin respiration and promotes blood circulation
- very good heat-regulating (protects against cold and heat)
- does not cause static
Further information about the “Moutrio”-sheep can be found here.
All yarns for sale are spun by hand on the spinning wheel.
The appearance of the yarn color may differ from the original color depending on the screen settings.
